Why did this start?

In 2009 three of us from Transition Towns Otaki went to a community currencies seminar run by Living Economies. We decided to start a timebank here because it strengthens community.

There are a 14 timebanks operating or getting set up in New Zealand. Internationally there are 100s of timebanks meeting the needs of their communities: timebanks.org.

We had our first national timebank hui in Lyttelton October 2011. Read about that and other NZ timebank news on timebanks.org.nz.

The Otaki Timebank decided to use Community Weaver online software to operate our Timebank. We share this USA software with American, Canadaian and other groups around the world. Many of the NZ timebanks use it too, which will help us to share between timebanks.
